Multiple technology vendors are anticipating the final ELD compliance date already flooding the market with electronic logging devices. A significant number of companies and owner-operators though still procrastinating the installation of ELDs. Despite the ongoing resistance though the changes are inevitable – all fleet and owner operators must comply with the ELD mandate by December 18, 2017. All motor carriers and truck drivers, who are required to manage a record of duty status (RODS) need to install ELDs in their commercial motor vehicles. But to comply with the original MAP-21 bill, enacted by the US-Congress, the ELDs have to be certified. The choice is not limited. Roadcheck happens every day

The annual DOT Roadcheck inspection starts tomorrow June 6th and will continue until June 8th During the 72-hours period, 10 000 inspectors in North America will work tirelessly to assure commercial vehicles are in compliant with the safety regulations. This inspection spree is a joint effort of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and others. Every year around 60 000 - 70 000 commercial vehicles undergo inspection and the results of this annual event are significant to the industry.  Last year more 62 000 inspections were performed (most of them Level 1 inspections, almost 42 000) The results - 3.4% of drivers inspected and 21.5 % of vehicles inspected were placed out of service. The FDA`s FSMA final Sanitary rule for carriers and shippers went into effect in April

It`s been a month since the new regulation for transportation of human and animal food went into effect, but some drivers and owner operators still get surprised when loading or unloading at a facility. The regulation is part of the Food Safety Modernization Act, and it aims to protect food “from the farm to the table.” The final rule proposed back in 2013, it was published in April of last year, but it`s officially enforced since 6th of April this year. According to The Voice of Food Retail, the final Sanitary Transportation Rule is designed to create a risk-based framework for food safety. In other words, the primary goal of that rule is to prevent any contamination of human and animal food loads transported by rail or road vehicles.
